Where does the name WD-40 come from?

WD-40 ®  is an abbreviation of English “Water Displacement”, which means “displacement of water”, model No. 40. This name was taken straight from the laboratory book used by the chemist who developed this product in 1953. The said chemist – Norm Larsen – tried to develop a substance to prevent corrosion by displacing water. His perseverance was rewarded when, after forty attempts, he finally managed to perfect the formula.

What does this multi-functional preparation called WD-40 do?

GREASES: The lubricants contained in the product are spread over a large area and permanently adhere to all moving parts.

PENETRATING: The multifunctional WD-40® loosens the bond between rust and metal and releases blocked, immobilized or rusty metal parts.

PROTECTS: Anticorrosive product components protect metal surfaces against moisture and other corrosive factors.

REMOVAL: Multi-purpose preparation WD-40® penetrates under the layers of dirt, mud and grease. Use it to remove dirt from tools, equipment and cars. Multifunctional WD-40® in liquid form also dissolves adhesives, making it easier to remove excess binding material.

TAKES UP TO MOISTURE: By displacing moisture, the multifunctional WD-40® quickly dries electrical systems and eliminates short-circuits caused by the presence of moisture.

What does the WD-40 multifunctional product contain?

Multi-purpose preparation WD-40® is a versatile solution designed for use at home, as well as in a garage or production plant. It is a comprehensive blend of lubricating oils, enriching additives, surfactants and solvents, the combination of which provides lubrication, penetration, water displacement, purification and anti-corrosion protection of various metal surfaces. We can not really tell you what this product is made of because it is our best kept secret. However, we can say what is missing in the product. WD-40® does not have fish oil. The product does not contain any carcinogens, teratogenic or mutagenic agents. It does not contain any heavy metals. Does not contain any substances on the SVHC list (substances of very high concern). WD-40® also does not contain any silicone or acids. It also contains CO2 as a propellant (instead of LPG), thanks to which you can fit more product in each container.

What is the shelf life of the WD-40 multifunctional product?

WD-40® is a durable product developed and manufactured for highly specialized applications. The preparation should fulfill its functions for a virtually unlimited time. However, the actual possibility of using the product is influenced by the durability of mechanical components, such as valves in which pressure containers are equipped. For this reason, it is assumed that the shelf life of the product is 5 years from the date of production, although often both the packaging and the product itself perform their functions for a much longer time. WD-40® should be stored at 4 to 54 degrees Celsius, and shake well before use.
