It is the middle of the night (exactly midnight), and you are watching the Exorcist, when suddenly, you do not know where you can hear the long, horrifying squeak of old, rusty hinges in the door. I do not know about you, but in my case the coincidence of all these circumstances causes a lot of unpleasant symptoms, like the pale skin, the fast beating heart and the belief that a demon from the dark has entered my home to take my soul away.
This is just one of many situations when the creaking door teases us. Fortunately, you can easily deal with it. In this text we have given a multitude of ways to get rid of the problem of squeaking doors.
Usually, the use of the grease you choose and applying it to the hinges is sufficient. However, if it does not work, you can try to remove it, clean it with rust or cover with the chosen agent.
Below you will find a few products that you can use immediately, without downloading the door:
Creaking doors are still a problem? This means that you need to remove the hinges and clean them thoroughly. There are three ways to do this.
Usually, the use of oil on the creaking hinges of the door is sufficient. Follow the steps listed below step by step to apply oil.
At the beginning, close the door and hit the end of the hinge with your hand or hammer. When the hinge is loose, you can pull it using the other end of the hammer. Remember that after loosening the hinges, the door is no longer securely mounted in the frame. Therefore, for safety, lean them against the nearest wall so that they do not fall.
Motor oil is one of the best lubricants on the market. It is quite cheap and easily accessible. In addition, it remains hinged for a long time before it dries. Pour some engine oil onto a paper towel or cloth and wipe the hinges with it. You can also use frying oil or WD-40. They are tried-and-tested products that can cope with the problem of squeaking doors.
Put the brackets back in place. Apply them and adjust using a hammer. Check several times that the doors open and close freely. Also check if the door will creak. If the creaking door is still a problem, repeat the operation by applying more oil.
Considering the fact that the oil has a liquid form, it could drip onto the floor. He could also splash the door. Therefore, use a cloth to remove excess oil from the hinges and other places if it dripped.
If the use of oil does not work, the wax will also help deal with the problem of creaking doors. Below you will find instructions on how to apply wax.
Paraffin wax can be found, for example, in candles or in raw form in handicraft stores. Pure wax is odorless, white and available in large pieces or small cubes. If you choose candles, make sure they are made of paraffin wax.
If you have an electric oven, heat the wax until it is completely dissolved. Avoid doing this on a gas stove because it is dangerous; too warmly heated wax produces a flammable steam. If you do not have an electric furnace, you can use the microwave. Set it to 1: 30-2: 00 so that the wax will melt completely.
Remove the hinges as described above when lubricating them with oil. The use of hot wax has its advantages: it prevents the accumulation of dust, which is not so obvious when using oil. Remember to evenly cover the protruding part of the hinge.
Wait for the wax to cool down. This will not drain off the hinges. It may take about 5-10 minutes. Open and close the door a few times to make sure that the squeaking stops.
Sometimes one layer is not enough. In this case, apply wax until the creak disappears. After using wax, you do not get so much messy as after using oil, so you do not have to wipe it off after each use.
You must remember that neither oil nor wax will remove the dirt from the hinges. Therefore, if your door is a creaky door, you can not forget to clean the hinges with a scourer.
If your door does not stop creaking after using oil or wax, dirty or rusty hinges can be a source problemu. Lubricants are not effective in removing rust, dirt or grease. Look closely at the hinges. If you see dirt, rust or grease, you must try using a wire brush.
After removing the upper part of the hinge in the manner that was described above, insert the pin from the hinge into the sink. Use a wire brush to clear the problem.
The bristle is best suited for cleaning hinges. Removes all rust, dirt, grease and paint residues. You will do it most effectively by making spherical movements.
After cleaning, it is necessary to lubricate the hinge with oil or wax. Even a dishwashing liquid or any lubricant is required. Now you can put the door in the frame again. Check whether they are working fine now and whether there are no leftovers being used.
